Please put money/cheque – payable to K & D U3A Gardening Group – in an envelope annotated with your name, amount and the trip it is for and give to Mary.

28 January - Eastern Promise 

During her talk and demonstration on Ikebana, Mary Wadsworth will introduce us to this fascinating Japanese art of Flower Arranging. Mary is the President of the Leicester Chapter of Ikebana International and will donate her arrangements as Raffle prizes. Admission is £3. 

25 February - What’s This? 

If you have any ‘strange’ plants popping up in the garden, which you would like identified, please bring along a photograph of them in bloom or a cutting, or come armed with any questions you may have and tap into the huge range of botanical expertise shared by the group. Watch Mary’s 2013/14DVD of past visits and participate in her entertaining Quiz. Admission is £3.

25 March - A Gardener’s Life 

During her talk, Sally Cunningham takes a light-hearted look at her 35 years of working as a professional gardener. Admission is £3

29 April - All Day Coach Trip to Ragley Hall and Gardens, Worcestershire  

The family home of the Marquess of Hertford, this Palladian house is set in a Capability Brown designed parkland. Opening specially for us, we will have an exclusive 1 hour Guided Tour of the State Rooms, followed by free time to explore the 19thcentury Gardens where the tulips and daffodils should be in full bloom. The coach will leave KGS Car Park at 9am and return from Ragley at 4pm. The inclusive cost is £18.

27 May - Half Day Coach Trip to Titchmarsh House, Northamptonshire 

Cherries, magnolias, unusual shrubs, irises, roses and ornamental vegetables feature in this 4½ acre NGS garden, extended and laid out by Sir Ewan and Lady Jennifer Harper since 1972. We will have an Introductory Talk and Guided Tour of the garden. The coach will leave KGS Car Park at 12pm and return from Titchmarsh at 4.30pm. The Cost is £10, plus £3 for tea/coffee and cake.

10 June - Visit to The Old Vicarage, Burley, LE15 7SU 

This 3 acre NGS country garden includes a walled garden with vine-house producing fruit, herbs, vegetables and cut flowers; formal lawns and borders; lime walk; rose gardens; a rill running through an avenue of wisteria; wildlife garden, orchards and beech woodland.  Owner, Sandra Blaza will give us an Introductory Talk and wander round with us to answer questions. Admission is £4.50, plus £3 for tea/coffee and cake. 

June 24 - All Day Coach Trip to Winterbourne House and Botanic Garden, Birmingham 

We will have a Guided Tour of the walled garden, colour themed borders, glasshouses, sandstone rock garden, stream-side planting and stunning botanic garden displaying over 6,000 plants from around the world; before leisure time to explore two floors of period rooms in this beautifully restored Edwardian Arts and Crafts Suburban Villa; also visit the Tea Room, Gift  & Plant Shop and Victorian Printing Press Exhibition. The coach will leave KGS Car Park at 9am and return from Birmingham at 4.30pm. The cost is £8 coach fare; plus £8 admission (£4 for HHA members), totalling £16 or £12 for HHA members.

29 July - Visit to Bosworth House, Arthingworth, LE16 8LA

Mrs Irving-Swift will give us a Guided Tour of her 1½-acre NGS organic garden, which she started in 2001. Highlights include herbaceous borders, orchard, cottage garden with greenhouse, vegetable garden, herbs and strawberries, spinney and a magnificent wellingtonia. Admission is £5 including tea/coffee and cake. 

26 August - Half Day Coach Trip to Newstead Abbey, Nottinghamshire

Dating back to the 12th century and once home to the notorious poet Lord Bryon, this beautiful historic house is set in over 300 acres of glorious gardens and parkland. During an hour long guided tour, we will experience the romance and mystery of the Abbey, which is opening specially for us. Please note there are stairs to navigate, so you may prefer to just wander around the grounds and visit the cafe. The coach will leave KGS at 12 noon and return from Newstead at 4.30pm. The cost is £11 including the house tour and free access to the grounds; OR £7 for entry to the gardens only.    

30 September - Visit to Kelmarsh Hall and Gardens, Northampton NN6 9LY 

We will have a Guided Tour of this Palladian style mansion which weaves in an overview of its history with the story of Nancy Lancaster, who inspired the development of the ‘English Country House’ style. We are then free to explore the West Meadow and Terrace, Double Borders, Sunken Garden and scented Rose Garden, much influenced by Nancy, together with designers Norah Lindsay and Geoffrey Jellicoe; and also visit the Tea Room. Admission is £9.50.

28 October - Putting The Garden To Bed 

During his talk and demonstration, Mark Goddard from Coles Nursery will advise and answer questions on preparing the garden for Winter and creating seasonal container displays, as well as getting ready for Spring. He will also raffle off one or two of the pots and offer plants at a discount.  Admission is £3.

25 November - All Day Coach Trip to Doddington Hall and Gardens 

Specially opened for our visit, there will be lots to admire on our 1½ hour Guided Tour of this fine Elizabethan Mansion, including the festively decorated rooms.  We will have free time to browse through the Bauble Room filled to the rafters with Christmas decorations and the Farm Shop stocked with a wide variety of seasonal treats from stollen cake to gingerbread; perhaps indulge in home-cooked refreshments from the Coach House; also, weather permitting, explore the equally magnificent grounds. The coach will leave KGS Car Park at 9am and return from Doddington at 4pm. The cost is £17.
