Photography

The aim of our group is to learn from each other how to take better and more interesting photographs so we discuss camera and lens settings and also composition and style. We all have our favourite subjects such as macro, portraits and landscape, but we cover a wide variety and each month we show photographs on a topic we have set including discussing photos that didn’t quite work. You can see the list below.

Group members also demonstrate and talk about a topic in which they have more expertise or interest. Now that we are able we will also be going for trips to various locations during the year.

It doesn’t matter whether you are a novice or an “expert”; use a camera or a phone, you are welcome to join us for a taster at Smeeton Westerby Village Hall, third Tuesday of each month at 10.30.

Intentional camera movement (ICM) was our topic for February. it proved quite a challenging topic and you can see some more of our efforts below.

For March, the topic was using our phones instead of cameras . It was certainly useful to explore what the phone can and cannot do in comparison to the camera.

For April, we have no topic but to explore how to make our photographs better. Hopefully this will lead us to a meaningful discussion of the photographs.
