We meet on the first Wednesday of each month in members’ houses. We examine the lives of poets and read their work out loud to each other.

We then discuss our views on the work (and the poet). Sometimes we choose a theme instead of a poet. Past examples include: the sea, the weather, humour, Christmas and there have been many more.

Zoom was great boon for us during the pandemic and kept us going very well. We shall only be using zoom occasionally now, perhaps for example if the weather is too bad to travel to meet.

Unfortunately the group is full at present but there is a waiting list for anyone who might be interested.

Carol Townend reports:

On 1st May the Poetry Group looked at the work of Amanda Gorman. She is the 26 year old American who read her poem “The Hill we Climb” at the inauguration of President Joe Biden.

We were all impressed by the sensitivity, skill and imagination of someone who has achieved so much in a relatively short time. A remarkable young poet who aspires to be President by 2036.

Next time our theme will be “Dreams’ and that should provide a lot of scope.
