Jane Lacey's Breast Cancer Now charity event
Our Kibworth & District u3a member, Jane Lacey, is organising another annual charity event for Breast Cancer Now : https://breastcancernow.org/
Saturday 6th September 2 - 4pm at Kibworth Community Hub.
There will be a raffle, bottle tombola, gift bag tombola, cake stall and of course lots of homemade cakes and tray bakes to enjoy with a nice cup of tea or coffee.
If you can’t make the day then there is a JustGiving page which you could donate to: https://www.justgiving.com/page/jane-lacey
If anyone one would like to donate a raffle prize or a bottle for the tombola or make a cake it would be much appreciated. To do so, please contact Jane Lacey 07973 849 490 and then collection/delivery can be arranged.
Let’s try and beat last year's donation total of £2,000!
Jewry Wall Museum
Well, after 8 years, it re-opened on 26 July. Certainly worth a visit. Particulalry interesting were the mosaics. Apparently one was on display in an underwear shop until 1966 - you paid a penny to see it!
Also the animated illustrations are superb. Fantastic artwork created by Rochdale based Scott Tetlow.
Is this a Pot Luck candidate?
The Farm Comes to Harborough
Our member, Julie Fagan, has alerted us to this.
Strollers
Ros Holmes tells us that her group, The Strollers, have been out and about twice a month over the past few months, and are now having a rest in August. She says that we will resume our programme on Wednesday 10 September, venue to be arranged; it will - as usual - be a walk of 2 - 2.5 miles with no stiles.
Pot Luck
Once a year, Welland Valley Vintage Traction Club holds an Open Day for visitors to have a look round at their restored steam rollers, tractors, army vehicles and such like. The Pot Luck Group arranged a visit to the Open Day on Saturday 26th July just after the rain had stopped. Justin Chambers made us very welcome and introduced us to members of the group who regaled us with stories of times past and the restoration of their vehicles. It was a fascinating day and included a tea and beer tent with excellent home made cakes.

Great places to visit in Surrey, Sussex and Kent
Lorna and I did a "pub crawl" in mid July - cosy pubs recommended by the FT and a nice excuse to visit some really interesting places. Below are some highlights. I have to say that Margate was an unexpected lovely surprise.
The Harrow Inn at Steep. Probably one of the nicest pubs ever.
We told the owner we had travelled especially from Leicester to visit and, although incredibly busy, she sat with us and told us all about the place.
Hastings. Horrendously Hogarthian yet delightfully Dickensian.
Winchelsea. Sublime Cinque Port.
Spike Milligan's headstone there sports the tetchy phrase: "I told you I was ill".
Margate had a fantastic vibe. The weather was great; the sea was warm and everyone was in such a good mood.
The Turner Contemporary and fab old town full of cafés restaurants and art/craft shops.
